5116   CONSTRUCTION PROCESSES

Semester, 1 credit

Prerequisite: Construction Systems

Construction Processes is a specialized course designed to help students to better understand the built environment around them. Heavy engineering projects including both residential and commercial buildings and civil structures such as road, dams, and bridges will be studied.  The designing, engineering and construction procedures, techniques and materials in each area will be stressed with visits to actual structure locations.  Students will design and construct a scale model manufactured housing park and the required trailers within, develop safety procedures and demonstrations of various tools, shoot elevations and building layouts with surveying equipment, as well as do masonry and construction procedures during project construction.  Major emphasis will also be placed on the hands-on building trades skills to be utilized in the construction of wood framed structures.  This process will be taught through the student design, take off/order and construction of various sized storage barns and structures that are ordered and sold to customers.  There will be a fee charged for this class.
