  • Cap and Gown Orders

For decades, New Castle High School has had an excellent relationship with Jostens. Caps and gowns are REQUIRED for the commencement ceremony. Seniors may, however, wish to purchase some of the many accessories and "extras" made available by Jostens. It is also permissible for students to use caps and gowns belonging to past graduates, provided the items are in excellent shape and the color matches exactly.

Here is the contact information for Jostens in case you have any questions about your order or payments:

    Jostens
    Joy, Jeff, & Jason Pope
    5220 N. Sugar Hills Drive
    Greenfield, IN  46140
    Phone: 317-326-2782
    Fax: 317-326-2782
    Pope.office@jostens.com

Alternatively, you may wish to visit Jostens.com directly if you wish to order packages. Be sure to select New Castle High School.

Although Mr. Thurston wants to be of help as much as possible, he is not a Jostens employee or associate, and unfortunately does not have access to customer information regarding the status of orders, amounts paid, or balances due. For Jostens concerns, it is best to speak with Jostens representatives directly.

  • Senior Final Exams

    May 22 & 23

Exams will be administered in two-hour blocks over a two day period as follows:

    • Wednesday, May 22 – Periods 1, 3, 5, & 6
    • Thursday, May 23 – Periods 2, 4, 5, & 7

Seniors who miss ANY exam will be expected to participate in EXAM MAKE-UP from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Friday, May 24.

  • Senior Walk

    Thursday, May 23 • 2:40 p.m.

Senior Walk represents the last time members of the Class of 2019 will all be in the building together at the close of a normal school day. At approximately 2:40 p.m., members of the senior class will be dismissed from their 7th period class to follow a pre-determined route throughout every floor and wing of the building. Along the way, underclassmen, faculty, and staff greet seniors as they pass by. Many members of the community and school administration join us to help celebrate our soon-to-be graduates during this triumphant and often emotional procession.

Following the Senior Walk, all seniors report to the football field (or Fieldhouse in inclement weather) for an informal class picture taken by McKown Studios & Gallery. Caps and gowns are NOT needed for this event.

  • Senior Class 5K Walk/Run

    Tuesday, May 28 • 10:00 a.m., Westwood Park

This year marks the fourth annual 5K Walk/Run at Westwood Park! It's open to all seniors with an entry fee of $5.00 — all proceeds benefit NCHS Renaissance. The course is marked out, and drinks are provided. It will be a great time, and even more fun the more people who participate.

  • Senior Picnic

    Tuesday, May 28 • 12:00 p.m., Westwood Park

All seniors are REQUIRED to attend the senior picnic at Westwood Park  in Henry County. There is no charge for the event, and the New Castle High School PTO provides drinks and snacks. This is a fun time of outdoor fellowship and fun for all seniors. The picnic is held at the shelter house. This event is reserved for NCHS seniors only — no guests permitted.

8:30 a.m. 5/28 — There is no reason to believe the picnic will need to be cancelled because of weather, but if seniors are still enjoying the picnic and it begins to rain, they may stay under the big shelter house until they decide they want to leave. If we should have storms, the senior picnic will not be rescheduled.

  • Senior Breakfast

    Wednesday, May 29 • 8:15 a.m., First Baptist Church

Senior Breakfast is an annual tradition which is intended to provide a pleasant social dining experience for the entire class prior to Recognitions practice.

A new tradition started in 2013 when the Breakfast Optimists provided the meal at First Baptist Church. In previous years, the breakfast was held in the high school cafeteria.

A small number of awards will be presented, including recognition of our senior commencement speakers.

After the breakfast, all seniors are expected to be at Recognitions practice in Bundy Auditorium at 9:30 a.m.

  • Recognitions Practice

    Wednesday, May 29 •  9:30 a.m., Bundy Auditorium

Recognitions practice is an absolute requirement for all seniors. Please be early so that we may begin right on time!

  • Senior Pool Party and Luau

Wednesday, May 29 •  1:00-3:00 p.m., Baker Park Aquatic Center

Since 2013, Mayor Greg York and the City of New Castle have graciously provided a pool party and luau for all New Castle seniors at the Aquatic Center at Baker Park. Seniors will have exclusive access to the swimming pool area and the city of New Castle will be providing fun party favors and concessions. There is no cost for admission. Although the event is not required, we always have very strong attendance last year, and this is the last activity before Nite Club that seniors share together.

RAIN DATE:  Thursday, May 30 (1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.) Please check this website for any changes in plans. Updates may also be provided on the senior class Twitter feed.

  • Graduation Practice

    Thursday, May 30 •  8:15 a.m., New Castle Fieldhouse

Seniors are REQUIRED to report to the Fieldhouse to rehearse for graduation practice. Please DO NOT be late — practice will not start until every student is present. Mrs. Bimber will explain what happens throughout the ceremony and students will practice their arrival and seating. It is extremely important to listen carefully to all instructions and to be cooperative.

  • Recognitions Night

    Thursday, May 30 •  7:00 p.m., Bundy Auditorium

Recognitions Night is a way for parents and the community to celebrate the achievements of our graduating class. Attendance is MANDATORY for all seniors. It is of particular note that local businesses and organizations generously award thousands of dollars to seniors in scholarships every year during this program.

  • Commencement Ceremony (Graduation)

    SUNDAY, JUNE 2, 2019 • 2:00 p.m.
    New Castle Fieldhouse

    APPROPRIATE ATTIRE

    • Young Men – Wear white or light-colored shirt with dark tie, black or dark-colored pants, and dark-colored shoes. No shorts.
    • Young Women – Wear lightweight skirt or dress (gowns are too thin and shorts would show through). Wear dark-colored, sensible shoes.

    GUEST ACCOMMODATIONS

Seating for disabled guests is available around the Fieldhouse concourse. Please see Mr. Thurston immediately following graduation practice to reserve concourse seating for family members.

    TIME FRAME

    • Seniors should arrive to line up on the west side of the Fieldhouse for processional by 1:00 p.m.
    • Parents, relatives, and friends should arrive prior to 1:50 p.m.
    • The commencement ceremony will begin promptly at 2:00 p.m.

    PICTURES

Graduation is an important milestone, and parents and guests are welcome to take pictures during the ceremony. However, all photography must be done from the seating area—under no circumstances will anyone be allowed to walk in and among the graduates to take pictures. Official graduation pictures will be taken by Mike McKown Studio and Gallery in a formal setting following Recognitions rehearsal on Wednesday, May 29. Seniors must bring their caps and gowns for this photo session.  There will also be an opportunity for an informal group picture following the Senior Walk at the football field (caps and gowns are not necessary).  Ordering and payment envelopes will be distributed at the Senior Meeting on Tuesday, May 1.

    ANNOUNCEMENTS / INVITATIONS

As early as possible, please inform relatives and friends of your graduation ceremony by sending announcements along with your name card. As there is plenty of seating available in the Fieldhouse, New Castle High School does not issue admission tickets for graduation.

    THE CEREMONY

Parents, friends, and guests of the graduating seniors are asked to demonstrate the proper respect for the dignity of the occasion. For this reason, please do not bring noisemakers or create distractions as the seniors’ names are being read.

  • Senior Nite Club

    Sunday, June 2 •  9:00 p.m. - midnight, enter via East Cafeteria doors (Door # 2)

Senior Nite Club is a long-standing tradition in which New Castle graduates and their friends enjoy a final evening of celebration and fun. For most graduates, it is the last time they will see many of their classmates for several years. The event is held in the east and west cafeterias and adjoining areas. Nite Club is the result of dozens of caring individuals and local businesses who take pride in our community and are willing to donate their time and resources to do something special and memorable for our seniors.

Invitations are required for Nite Club, and ID’s will be checked at the door. Each senior may bring one (1) guest (certain restrictions apply). Please make your reservations though Google Forms at the link provided. You have until 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21. After that, it will be too late to make or change your reservation.
