  • Senior Parking Lot Sales and Painting

    August 7 - September 4

One of the best loved traditions at New Castle High School is painting senior parking spots in the first weeks of school. Seniors and their families enjoy spending time together and being creative! There are 123 spots available, and parking spaces are just east of the Athletic Office. Each spot is $20.00.

Vocational dental students, under the direction of Ms. Christina Steigerwalt, will be providing sealing services for $25/parking space (checks payable to "Dental Careers"); this service will be available for reservations the week of August 14 during "A" and "C" lunch. Sealing spots means having a nice, clean, blank canvas to create your parking space masterpiece! This service is separate from the senior class, so for all questions, please see Ms. Steigerwalt or a Dental Careers student.

    • Sales will be the week of August 7-11. Senior class officers will sell during lunch. Seniors who are not able to purchase spots at this time may see Mr. Thurston before or after school.
    • A copy of the rules and expectations will be provided to each student who purchases a space.
    • On Monday, August 14, a lottery drawing will be held after school to determine parking spaces. We will start right at 3:10 p.m. to be fair. First choice goes to those who are drawn first. Students will have almost a full week to purchase materials, become familiar with their spot, collaborate on designs, and make plans.
    • Seniors must turn in a proposal for their design to Mr. Thurston or Mrs. Hinshaw (Assistant Principals' Office) by Friday, August 18. The design must be approved before painting can begin.
    • Painting begins on Friday, August 25 and must be completed by sundown on Monday, September 4 (Labor Day weekend). Because we offer such a large window of time, we will not have any additional days beyond that.

If there are any questions, please see Mr. Thurston. You must get permission to park by registering with Mrs. Hinshaw (Assistant Principals' Office) before you are eligible to purchase a space!

Seniors: If you would like to have your parking space sealed at an affordable price of $25, Dental Careers program will be selling this service in front of the cafeteria during A and C lunch from Tuesday, August 15th to Friday, August 18th.

  • Cap and Gown Orders

For decades, New Castle High School has had an excellent relationship with Jostens. Caps and gowns are REQUIRED for the commencement ceremony. Seniors may, however, wish to purchase some of the many accessories and "extras" made available by Jostens. It is also permissible for students to use caps and gowns belonging to past graduates, provided the items are in excellent shape and the color matches exactly.

Jostens will be here in October to explain their product line, distribute order forms, and begin taking orders. We will provide you with much more information before this time comes, so be sure to check the announcements!

Here is the contact information for Jostens in case you have any questions about your order or payments:

    Joy, Jeff, & Jason Pope
    5220 N. Sugar Hills Drive
    Greenfield, IN  46140
    Phone: 317-326-2782
    Fax: 317-326-2782

Alternatively, you may wish to visit directly if you wish to order packages. Be sure to select New Castle High School.

Although Mr. Thurston is happy to help parents and students in as much as he possibly can, he is not a Jostens employee or agent, and unfortunately does not have access to customer information regarding the status of orders, amounts paid, or balances due. For the vast majority of Jostens concerns, it is best to speak with Jostens representatives directly.

  • Senior Skating Parties

    • October 2017 (6:30-8:30 p.m.)
    • April 2018 (6:30-8:30 p.m.)

Senior skating parties are held once each semester at Gibson Arena on 406 North Memorial Drive (State Road 3) in New Castle. Admission, skate rental, and one soft drink are free to all seniors.

IMPORTANT: Only seniors who attend New Castle High School may attend skating parties. Seniors may not bring guests or family members. All school rules apply, and the event will be chaperoned by at least one NCHS faculty member.

  • Achievement Day

    Friday, September 29, 2017

Achievement Day is an important annual convocation dating back to the 1960s which is intended to celebrate the academic achievements of our students and to inspire scholastic success for the school year. Many important guests and members of the community are in attendance, including New Castle alumni.

New Castle High School will host the 58th Annual Achievement Day Program on September 29, at 1:30 pm. The 2017 program will feature Dr. Jennifer McCormick as the honored speaker. Dr. McCormick graduated from New Castle in 1987. She was elected as the Indiana State Superintendent of Public Education in November of 2016. She will address the New Castle student body, faculty/staff, and honored guests during the program in Bundy Auditorium. Dr. McCormick attended Purdue University and graduated in 1993, with a Bachelor in Education. She earned a Masters in Special Education in 1999, and a Doctorate Degree from Indiana State in 2011. During her teaching career she taught both special education and language arts. She became an elementary principal in 2004, and was named Yorktown’s Assistant Superintendent in 2007. In 2010, she became Superintendent of Yorktown Community Schools and held the position until her election in 2016.

Dr. McCormick will be the keynote speaker in a program that features a performance by the New Castle Band, a short student presentation, and the traditional NCHS Achievement Day Green Jacket Ceremony. The Achievement Day program honors several students for strong academic achievement with a school crest for earning a 3.666 GPA or higher for four or more semesters. Students with six semesters of a 4.0 GPA receive a Green Jackets/Honor Ring. The 2017 program is extra special this year as it kicks off Homecoming 2017.
