Pen tablet/pen tool tutorial #1

  1. Navigate to the first link in the source files. This should take you to PhotoshopCafe.com. Read the tutorial to understand how the pen tool and bezier curves work.
  2. Using the pen tablet and the pen tool, follow the steps outlined in the tutorial, and create a heart-shaped path in Adobe Photoshop CS5.
  3. Save your heart as "pen_heart.psd" and upload it on Moodle under this assignment.

  1. Click on the second link in the source file for this assignment.
  2. Right mouse click and copy the image with multiple shapes from the website. 
  3. Open a new document in Photoshop, leave the dimensions at their default settings (which should be the size of the image you copied)
  4. Make sure the box for "resample image" is checked
  5. Change the resolution to 300 ppi (high resolution needed for all printing projects).
  6. Once you've created the new document, paste in the image (right-mouse click) from the web tutorial. It should be a perfect fit.
  7. Trace the shapes as closely as you can using the pen tablet to control the pen "tool" in Photoshop. (You can adjust the anchor points and handles on the pen path as you click and drag, but you can also add, delete, and shift anchor points and handles after they've already been drawn).
  8. Save the document as "pen_multishapes.psd" and upload to Moodle.

  2. Right mouse click and copy the image of the soccer player from the website. 
  3. Open a new document in Photoshop, leave the dimensions at their default settings (which should be the size of the image you copied).
  4. Make sure the box for "resample image" is checked.
  5. Change the resolution to 300 ppi (high resolution needed for all printing projects).
  6. Once you've created the new document, paste in the image (right-mouse click) from the web tutorial. It should be a perfect fit.
  7. Follow the directions on the tutorial to outline the soccer player and create the effects described. (When outlining err toward the "inside" of the image areas so that unsightly white or background color won't show around the image.
  8. Save the document as "pen_soccerplayer.psd" and upload to Moodle.
