This is a journal we created to help our students practice I-step skills. We read through each problem. Then, we have the children highlight or circle important numbers. They put a star beside the "question asked" so they will remember to answer it. Then, they draw out the story problem (ex. draw 10 raindrops). They "x" out the pictures to show take away/minus (ex. the sun dried up 5 raindrops). Now, they go back and answer the "question asked" (ex. How many raindrops are left?). Next, they write an equation/math sentence (ex. 10-5=5). before they can hand in their journal the have to touch the numbers and "read" the math sentence/equation.
