1936 MUSIC HISTORY AND APPRECIATION
Semester, 1 credit
Prerequisite: Be a member of one of the performing music organizations at school or be studying music privately
This course follows the development of Western Music from the Middle Ages through the Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo, Classical, Romantic, and 20th Century eras. The primary focus will be the study of musical styles, developments, and major composers in each of those periods. This will be achieved through the use of lecture, audio/visual materials, independent study, computer-assisted learning, and live performance.
The student will develop skills to become an intelligent listener of music and will have a basis for further musical study at the collegiate level.
