1926   MUSIC THEORY AND COMPOSITION

Semester, 1 credit

Prerequisite: Be a member of one of the performing music organizations at school or be studying music privately.

This class will provide the student with the knowledge and understanding of fundamental music theory and the basic rudiments of music composition and analysis.   The student will learn the essential ‘building blocks’ of music through traditional study and the use of computer software and technology, as well as acquiring fundamental piano keyboard skills.  The student will eventually apply this knowledge in the analysis of existing musical literature, as well as the creative process of composing his/her own musical ideas.  This class also provides a basis for further musical study at the collegiate level.
