5106   CONSTRUCTION SYSTEMS

Semester, 1 credit

Prerequisite: None

Construction Systems is a broad course for students to learn the design and production systems for constructed projects in the natural and man-made environment by creating hands on projects. Students will be introduced to the equipment, tools, techniques, and materials used in the various types of construction. Design and engineering steps will be role played through the original design of a tower, a dream home, a dam, and the various infrastructure components within a city.  Scale models of towers and dams will be built and tested for design/engineering failures.  Various computer skills will be taught through the applications of Computer Aided Drafting and 3-D Architecture.  Construction understanding will be developed further with the study of a existing structure be creating documentation, drawings, and a scale model.  All presentations, demonstrations and activities are geared toward the understanding of the wide range of construction systems.  There will be a fee charged for this class.
