"Observatons and Meditations" is the _New York Banner_ column noted at the beginning of Chapter 12 in a fictional book by an author who claims to write and read for the sake of the story. The author is known for writing philosophically and critiquing governmental/ economic systems. The book containing this reference acts as a critique that explores a young architect's battle against traditional standards of academia, business, architecture, and social behavior.  She even has a manifesto in her bibliography.
This author and this novel can be described in many ways to follow Romantic ideals.
