The Renaissance program began in the Carolinas by a principal, Larry Biddle, back in the 1980s. The program was started to recognize as many students as possible for academic pursuits/accomplishments much as athletics had done such a great job of doing in our schools. Jostens saw this as a positive program and took over the promotion and sponsorship of Renaissance nationally in the 1990s. The initial goals of Renaissance were to improve on the following:

Student Attendance
Overall Academic Performance (e.g. test scores, GPA's, etc.)
Graduation Rates
Positive and Safe School Environment
The Four R's of Renaissance are: Respect, Recognize, Reward & Reinforce.
