Adobe Photoshop/Bamboo pen tablet animal illustration

Objective: To become familiar with Photoshop brushes and the pen tablet and how to use the brushes/tablet to sketch and add texture and variety to Photoshop illustrations.

  1. Select image: Select an online image or an original photograph of an animal. This image will be recreated in Photoshop using the pen tablet. The image needs to have enough detail to support experimenting with at least 10 different brushes (qualities of line). Have the instructor approve your image choice.
  1. Line Quality: Show evidence of experimenting with at least 10 different brushes, tips, size, opacity, etc. (qualities of line). You should be able to demonstrate this with textured areas of the image such as fur, grass, highlights, shadows, outline sketches, etc.
  1. Document setup: At least 8.5 x 8.5 inches (may be larger or different proportions if you wish), resolution 300 ppi. These values will be added when creating a new document but can also be adjusted in the options bar under Image>Image Size.
  1. Composition: Final illustration should be cropped into a more interesting composition using the Rule of Thirds and/or other principles of design.

  2. *See the Rubric for additional Requirements.
