New Castle girls soccer team beat Huntington North 2-0 in their first conference game of the season.  Courtney Denney scored off an assist from Allyson Garrett and Katie Sutherland, while Emily Smith scored unassisted.  The New Castle defense highlighted the day—led by Sara Leyes in goal and Kristen Werking, Paige Wheeler, Megan Modesitt, and Rachel RainerNew Castle is now 4-2 on the season and 1-0 in conference.  Their next game is Tuesday at Yorktown.

 

The Boys Varsity soccer team improved to 4-1-1 this weekend with a win over NCC rival Huntington North in a 2-1 overtime penalty kick shootout win to improve to 1-0 in conference play.  New Castle gave up a goal 15 minutes into the match despite outshooting their opponent and creating several offensive attempts.   New Castle got on the board in the 60th minute as Andrew Pheffer created an opportunity for Conner King to find the back of the net.  The defense went on to hold the Vikings scoreless through regulation and overtime.  A dramatic shootout would then determine the winner. After missing the first two shots in the penalty kick shootout Zach Millikan made a stop and  NC went on to make 5 straight with help from Brad Broyles, Bryant Martin, Ben HatfieldAlex Stigall, and Ryan Jones followed by another Millikan stop to win the game.    Zach Millikan was credited with 4 saves and 2 penalty kick stops, in goal while Ben Hatfield was credited with one non goalie save. NC will be put to the test this week with home games against Yorktown and Muncie Burris at 5pm on Tuesday and Thursday.

The New Castle boys jv soccer team lost 4-1 Saturday at Huntington North. The team fought hard all the way to the final whistle. The lone goal scorer for the Trojans came from the foot of Keaton Leveridge off an assist from Chris Janosch. Sam Thompson ended the match with 5 saves as the goalkeeper. The boys next match will be Tuesday at home against Yorktown.

 

The girls cross country team placed 3rd of 10 teams in the large school division on Saturday at the Rushville invitational.  Franklin Central (39 pts) was followed by Connersville (84 pts) and New Castle (112 pts) in the meet.  New Castle placed 3 in the top 20 with Hannah Leveridge 8th, Kaitlin Frost 11th and Kendra Brammer 20th.  Also placing were:  Devra Barker 35th and Kristin Nicholson 38th.  The JV got to run for the first time this season and ran well gaining valuable experience on the lightly rolling course.  The girl’s next meet is next Saturday in the Marion Invitational.

 

The boys cross country team also competed in the Rushville Invitational on Saturday.  The Trojans placed 5th out of 8 teams.  Seniors Eric Hanson and Jim Campbell led the Trojans with a 13th and 14th place finish, respectively.  Other Trojans finishing for the Green and White were: Sam Willis (23rd), Collin Goodin (28th), Doug Gorman (34th) and Dalton McIlwain (41st).  In the JV race, junior Jacob Warner was the top Trojan to finish.  Also running in the JV race were Justin Burkholder, Patrick Calvert, Sam Hua and Sam Warner.  The next meet for the Trojans is Saturday at the Marion Invitational.

  • SADD members: please remember to turn in your "Contracts for Life" forms to Mr. Gray or Mr. Prater at your convenience. SADD officers/leadership team: Please turn in your "Day of Caring" registrations forms to Mr. Gray today if you plan on going.

 

  • Pick up your copy of the 2010-2011 Rosennial at the Yearbook Signing Party Wednesday, August 31 from 5-7pm in the West Cafe. Stop by with friends to sign yearbooks, listen to music, and enter a drawing for prizes, including a digital camera! If you didn't order a yearbook there will be a limited number available for purchase at the party for $50. Students who can't make the party can pick up their yearbooks at lunch on Sept. 1 and 2.
