Party Invitation (balance)

Come up with an imaginary “themed” party that you would like to host. This is your party, so pick the event and write the copy. You’ll need to include a date, time, location, phone number, and any other pertinent information. You want as many of your friends as possible to show up, so make this something that will catch their eye and entice them to attend. This will be an 8.5 X 11 document size and will be both mailed out to friends’ homes as well as displayed at school. Create two different versions: one symmetrically balanced layout and one asymmetrically balanced layout. Feel free to add visual elements such as rule lines, triangles, arrows, or boxes/rectangles or even imagery to enhance your design

As a beginner, one of the hardest things learn is to “break out of the box,” especially when working with text. In your design, you can enlarge elements, repeat elements, overlap elements, run some elements off the page, add texture to or crop certain elements, or add special effects such as transparencies, blurs, or glows. The list of ways to spruce up a design is endless, but be careful. Don’t go overboard, and remember to only add emphasis to specific, important elements. Maintain a hierarchy

Be able to identify at least one major strategy of balance (a different one than the sale flyer) and one major strategy of emphasis in your asymmetrical composition.
